SAINTS BLANKED BY WILDCATS IN GNAC MEN'S SOCCER

East Providence, R.I. - The Johnson & Wales University Wildcats posted a 3-0 victory over the visiting Saints of Emmanuel College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer contest at Pierce Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales got on the board first when freshman Adam Shaffer (Corning, N.Y.) fed a pass to senior Jeremiah Schenzel (Carson City, Nev.) in the middle of the box. Schenzel then slipped the ball into the lower right corner of the net at the 20:04 mark to put the Wildcats ahead 1-0. JWU took the 1-0 lead into halftime after out-shooting Emmanuel by a 10-3 margin.
The Wildcats carried the play early in the second half and went ahead by a score of 2-0 when junior Scott Kirchner (Irvine Calif.) headed in a cross from Shaffer at the 71:51 mark. JWU junior Eric Flath (Warwick, R.I.) capped off the scoring for the afternoon, putting in a pass from freshman Mike Goepp (Hackettstown, N.J.) on a breakaway at the 82:50 mark en route to the 3-0 victory. The Wildcats had a 21-7 advantage in shots for the game.
Sophomore Joe Ferraro (Freehold, N.J.) had two saves in the shutout for Johnson & Wales while sophomore Carlos Perez (Boca Raton, Fla.) made three stops in the loss for Emmanuel.
With the win Johnson & Wales is now 4-10, 3-3 in the GNAC while Emmanuel falls to 3-8-2 on the season and 1-3-2 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Saturday, October 18th when they travel to St. Joseph's of Maine for a GNAC contest, starting at 2:00 p.m. Emmanuel will play again on October 22nd against the Rams of Suffolk University. The game will be played at 4:00 p.m. on the home field for both teams, Dilboy Stadium.
