SAINTS TOP FALCONS WITH 1-0 WIN
Oct. 11, 2010
New Haven, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Soccer team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game 1-0 to visiting Emmanuel College on Monday afternoon. The Falcons outshot their opponents 19-7 but couldn't find the back of the net.
An even first half saw both teams entering halftime tied 0-0. Emmanuel scored just 22 seconds into the second half when junior midfielder Jeremy Scanlon (Woburn, MA/Belmont) finished a pass from sophomore forward Kevin Shirley (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) to make the score 1-0.
The Falcons struggled to find the back of the net missing a few key opportunities in the second half. Emmanuel College junior goalkeeper Wilhelm Du Bois (Key Biscane, FL/Coral Gables) made a game saving play in the 75th minute when he punched a rocket off the leg of junior forward Jamal Howard (West Haven, CT/West Haven) just high enough that it hit the cross bar preventing the goal.
Albertus outshot Emmanuel 11-2 in the second half but couldn't find a way to finish. Du Bois made eight saves in the shutout victory while freshman goalkeeper Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck) made saves for the Falcons.
Albertus drops to 10-4, 4-2 GNAC while Emmanuel improves to 5-7-2, 3-2-1 GNAC. The Falcons travel to Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT for a non-conference match on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
The Saints will return to the pitch this Saturday at noon when they will take on Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass.
