SOMERVILLE, MA - The Lasell Lasers cruised to a 4-1 win over the host Emmanuel Saints in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer match on Wednesday afternoon at Dilboy Stadium. The Saints were able to hold the Lasers to just one first half goal and then managed to tie the game early in the second half, but Lasell exploded for three second half scores, en route to the 4-1 win.
Lasell dominated the offensive play, out-shooting Emmanuel, 21-1, in the opening half of play. The Saints' senior goalkeeper Jeffrey Boughton (Chandler, AZ) was able to stop 10 of the Lasers' 11 shots on goal in the first stanza. It was junior midfielder Shane Vinnicombe (Pomfret Center, CT) who put Lasell on the board at 18:59. Vinnicombe received a corner kick assist from Zach Gagne (Somerset, MA), giving Lasell a 1-0 edge. Boughton and the Emmanuel defense shut down the Lasers for the remainder of the first half and Lasell took a 1-0 lead into the break.
Emmanuel came out strong in the opening minutes of the second half. Senior captain Cameron O'Hala (Bristol, CT) was able to tie the game at 1-1 with a flick over the head of Lasell keeper Julian Dutton (Madison, CT) at 56:39.
Ten minutes later, Lasell's sophomore forward Kyle Hermenegildo (Rehoboth, MA) came off the bench to score his first of two goals for the Lasers. Hermenegildo was assisted by rookie forward Kyle Cronin (Weymouth, MA) at 64:59. Hermenegildo struck again at 69:17 when he connected on a cross from Matt Tieri (Billerica, MA), to put Lasell up by two.
The Lasers tacked on one final goal in the 73rd minute, when junior forward Tholeman Francios (Stoughton, MA) ripped a shot past Emmanuel keeper Carlos Perez (Boca Raton, FL) with another assist from Gagne. Lasell continued to out-shoot Emmanuel in the second half, 13-2. The Lasers connected on four of their seventeen shots on goal, as they came away with the 4-1 victory.
