DABDOUB SCORES TWICE TO LEAD LIONS OVER SAINTS
Sept. 29, 2009
BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Eric Dabdoub (Monterrey, Mexico) gave the Emerson College Men's Soccer Team two insurance goals as the Lions defeated cross-town rival Emmanuel College, 3-0, at Emerson's Rotch Field in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest on Tuesday night.
Dabdoub scored in the 71st minute off a throw in by senior Casey Shane (New York, N.Y.) and followed that up with a blast from the five to the center of the net on a feed from senior Josh Watkinson (Rochester, N.H.) in the 79th minute.
Emerson had taken a 1-0 halftime lead when Emmanuel scored an own goal in the 32nd minute. A defender attempted to head the ball away from the goal, but the ball ricocheted just over the outstretched hands of Saint goalkeeper Carlos Perez (Boca Raton, Fla.). With the score still 1-0 in the 52nd minute, Perez made a great diving stop on a penalty kick by Dabdoub.
Emerson outshot the Saints in the contest by an 11-7 count. Each team had one corner kick and each was offsides three times. Emerson keeper Nick Strauss (Norwood, Mass.), returning from a shoulder injury, had three saves, while Perez stopped five Emerson shots.
Emerson (3-5-0, 2-2-0 GNAC) will next play Sunday, October 4th, when the Lions host St. Joseph's College in a 2:00 start. Emmanuel (1-8-0, 0-4-0 GNAC) will play at Wheelock College in a noon start on Saturday at Roberto Clemente Field.
