Men's Soccer Falls at Dean, 2-1, in Tuesday GNAC Action

The Bulldogs (9-3-2, 7-3-2 GNAC) will play their final regular season home game on Friday at 3 p.m. against Lasell. The game will also be senior day and during homecoming weekend. Emmanuel (4-10-1, 3-8-1 GNAC) travels to Elms on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match against the Blazers.
In the 17th minute, Dean senior Shavar Champagnie (West Yarmouth, Mass.) took a shot from the top of the six-yard box but was denied by the Emmanuel sophomore goalie Maddox Pierce (Meriden, Conn). The save bounced to the right side of the goal where sophomore Dominick Branco (Hudson, Mass.) hit the rebound into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.
The Saints found the equalizer in the 36th minute off a misplay deep in the Bulldogs end. Sophomore Noah Alves (Nassau, Bahamas) collected the ball near the top of the box and ripped a shot into the upper right corner for his first tally of the season.
A minute later, an Emmanuel player was sent off giving the Bulldogs a man-advantage for the final 52 minutes of the match.
The Bulldogs took advantage of the opportunity in the 73rd minute when sophomore Chris Tunley (Las Vegas, Nev.) sent a pass across the goal mouth to senior Sean Doherty (Chelmsford, Mass.) who deposited his third goal of the season and second game-winner to lift Dean to the 2-1 victory.
Senior Alberto Gonzalez Del Rio (Madrid, Spain) allowed one goal and made three saves to improve to 8-1-1 in net for the Bulldogs. Pierce had six saves in the loss for the Saints.
Dean had a 15-12 edge in shots, while Emmanuel held a 4-1 margin in corner kicks.
