Saints Fall to Suffolk 3-1 in Season Opener
BOSTON - Emmanuel College (0-0-1) fell to the Suffolk University Rams (1-0-0) on Friday afternoon in their first match of 2023 season at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints were able to hold strong in the first half, keeping the score level in the first 45 minutes of the out-of-conference matchup before falling 3-1 in the second half.

BOSTON - Emmanuel College (0-0-1) fell to the Suffolk University Rams (1-0-0) on Friday afternoon in their first match of 2023 season at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints were able to hold strong in the first half, keeping the score level in the first 45 minutes of the out-of-conference matchup before falling 3-1 in the second half.
Just five minutes into the second half, Brady Sorenson (Plymouth, Mass.) was able to beat Saints goalkeeper Maddox Pierce (Meriden, Conn.) to put the Rams ahead. Suffolk added another goal 20 minutes later from Diego Pierantozzi (Weston, Fla.) and a third from Erik Van Even (Boston, Mass.) with just over five minutes left to play. The Saints added a consolation goal from Junior forward Pedro-Andres Vazquez (Frisco, Texas), the fourth of his career, with under three minutes to play.
The Rams kept the Saints on their backfoot throughout the match. Suffolk totaled 17 shots to Emmanuel's 5, including a +9-shot margin in the second half. They were led by Sorenson who fired six shots to go along with his goal. Taj Jenson (Providence, R.I.) and Miguel Varela (Milton, Mass.) added an assist apiece for the Rams.
Vazquez's late second half goal was assisted by senior midfielder Adam Oshagan (Glendale, Calif.), the second of his career and first since the 2021 season. Maddox Pierce had four saves for the Saints.
Emmanuel returns to action at Roberto Clemente Field on Tuesday, September 5thto kick-off GNAC play against Norwich University at 7 p.m. Suffolk will host Salem State University in an out-of-conference matchup tomorrow at 1 p.m.
