THE LEAD – A late equalizing goal by Emmanuel with under four minutes remaining resulted in another draw for the Saints, as EC tied the Dean Bulldogs, 2-2, on Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening goal for both teams came via the penalty spot after fouls were drawn inside the penalty area but both the Saints and Bulldogs.
- EC took the lead in the 28th minute on a PK from sophomore Pedro-Andres Vasquez (Frisco, Texas). Despite the Dean goalie guessing correctly where the shot was heading, the right-footed shot had enough pace to find the net.
- Dean answered in the 50th minute thanks to a PK converted by junior Sean Doherty (Chelmsford, Mass.). Doherty's right-footed attempt sent Saints goalie Vincent Conelli (West Hartford, Conn.) diving the wrong way, as DC tied things at 1-1.
- The Bulldogs took the lead with 15 minutes remaining after a brilliant volley by junior Reinorf Kusi (Malden, Mass.). The goal came courtesy of a cross from the right wing by first-year Jake Richard (Townsend, Mass.) that was met by Kusi near the penalty dot, giving virtually no chance for Conelli while putting DC ahead 2-1.
- But with time winding down in the match and in the 87th minute, Emmanuel managed to equalize on a close-in opportunity. Following a cross from the left side, sophomore Richie Hickson (Woodstock, Conn.) laid off a pass to first-year Renato Martinez (Sao Paulo, Brazil) just six yards from goal. The rookie striker made no mistake, finishing the shot into the right-side netting, tying the match at 2-2.

- The Saints are now unbeaten in their last seven matches, holding a 3-0-4 record in that span.
