Erskine Sets Single-Season Program Goals Record in 2-0 Win Over Dean
FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men's soccer team triumphed in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action over Dean College, 2-0, on Saturday at Lippert Field.
FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men's soccer team triumphed in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action over Dean College, 2-0, on Saturday at Lippert Field.
Emmanuel improves to 8-6-2 overall and 5-5-1 in the conference. The Saints host Regis on Wednesday at 8 p.m. for a regular season finale. Dean goes to 3-12 overall and 2-9 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs will conclude the regular season on Tuesday at Saint Joseph's (Maine).
The Saints put a goal across in the 7th minute when the ball found Alec Erskine (Coventry, Conn.) near the top of the box. The junior ripped a shot away from the Dean goalie and into the back of the net for his team leading 11th tally of the season with the help of an assist from senior Campbell Shealy (Lexington, S.C.).
Erskine doubled the Saints' lead in the 24th minute when he finished a feed from senior Kyle King (Gorham, Maine). The tally was his 12th of the year, setting the Emmanuel single-season goals record which he was the previous record-holder of with 11 back in 2019.
Emmanuel had an 8-5 edge in shots in the second half, but neither team broke through to make the final score 2-0.
Senior Bryce Antoch (Cranston, R.I.) finished with eight saves for the Bulldogs. Senior Vincent Conelli (West Hartford, Conn.) earned the win for Emmanuel with six saves.
Dean held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks, while Emmanuel finished with an 10-8 discrepancy in shots on goal.
Prior to today's game, Antoch and Davonn Smith (Lowell, Mass.) were honored for their years of dedication to Dean College and the men's soccer program.
