THE LEAD – Senior forward Mason Galbato (North Easton, Mass.) netted the only goal to lift visiting Colby-Sawyer College past Emmanuel College, 1-0, Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Soccer action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Galbato found the back of the net in the 65th minute of play to get the Chargers out in front 1-0 with his third goal of the season. CSC first-year midfielder Jadon Baros (Colorado Spring, Colo.) got the play started by bending a ball to the far post forcing EC senior keeper Vincent Conelli (West Hartford, Conn.) to make a difficult save to his left side. The save deflected off the crossbar and Galbato was right there to clean up the rebound for the eventual game-winner.
- EC had its best chance to equalize in the 83rd minute as senior midfielder Campbell Shealy (Lexington, S.C.) redirected a volley from inside the box just over the bar and the Chargers were able to kill the remaining clock to hold on to the 1-0 road win.
- Early in the action, Emmanuel appeared to take a 1-0 lead during the sixth minute of regulation as first-year forward Pedro-Andres Vasquez (Frisco, Texas) trapped and one-timed a ball off the far post and into the back of the goal but the score was negated because of a handball call by the center official on the initial trap.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Senior keeper Lucas Boetsch (Rockport, Maine) earned the shutout victory in net to improve to 2-4 on the year making a pair of stops for Colby-Sawyer while Conelli also made two saves for Emmanuel to fall to 4-3-2 on the season.
- Emmanuel outshot the Chargers by an 8-7 margin while Colby-Sawyer owned a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
- The win for CSC moves the all-time series to 2-1 in three meetings in favor of the Chargers and is the first time either program has won against the other on the road.
