THE LEAD: In a College's of the Fenway matchup between the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards and the Emmanuel College Saints, the Leopards were able to squeak out a 1-0 win, thanks to a second half goal by junior Drew DeCoste (Somerset, Mass.), Monday at Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team was able to produce much offense through the first thirty minutes of play, with only two shots on goal for the Leopards and none for the Saints.
- The closest scoring opportunity came with only four minutes left on the clock in the half, as Emmanuel's freshman Kyle Monaghan (Monson, Mass.) broke open in the box but missed over the crossbar to go into half, 0-0.
- Both teams traded shots on either end to begin the first half before Wentworth's DeCoste found the back of the net from the box, assisted by junior Matt White (Northbridge, Mass.) and sophomore Nathan Gosselin (Hudson, N.H.), 1-0.
- Emmanuel was able to create some offensive pressure late in the game, driving the ball down the field with under a minute to go, but the Leopards held strong defensively, closing the game 1-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Leopards controlled every offensive category, totaling 14 shots in comparison to Emmanuel's seven, and eight shots on goal in comparison to only two by the Saints.
- Junior goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrarini (Hanover, Mass.) recorded seven saves for the Saints, while junior Philip Chomicki (Dorchester, Mass.) recorded two saves for the Leopards.
