NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Despite heavily outplaying and outshooting Emmanuel College, the Norwich University men's soccer team had to settle for a 0-0 draw on Friday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
Norwich (3-3-2, 2-0-2 GNAC) tied the Saints for the second straight year after they battled to a 2-2 stalemate last year in Boston. The Cadets remained unbeaten all-time against Emmanuel as they are now 16-0-3 in 19 meetings. NU also stretched its unbeaten streak to 16 straight games against league opponents.
NU sophomore Carlos Guerra (Mission, Texas) led Norwich with a team-high seven shots as the Cadets outshot the Saints 31-4 for the game. Junior Chris Clain (Proctor, Vt.) and senior Camilo Estrada (Pawtucket, R.I.) had five and four shots respectively.
Junior Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) made one save to pick up his fourth clean sheet of the season. Emmanuel sophomore goalie Jonathan Ferrarini made 16 saves for the Saints.
Emmanuel's (1-4-3, 1-0-2 GNAC) one shot on goal may have been the best scoring chance of the game as William Burdick got a head on a corner kick at the top of the six-yard box, but Germano was right there to make the save and collect the ball cleanly without allowing a rebound.
Norwich had eight corner kicks to Emmanuel's one.
Norwich will look to get back on track when it hosts Castleton University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium in non-conference action. The Saints return to action on Wednesday, September 27 when they play host to Johnson & Wales at 7 p.m.
