NEWTON, Mass. -- Mount Ida College men's soccer celebrated the careers of six of their senior members on Saturday evening at Alumni field before falling 3-1 to Emmanuel College in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular-season finale.

In a pre-game ceremony, the Mustangs honored seniors senior JT Yager (Malta, N.Y.), Vlasi Duni (Peabody, Mass.), Shawn Bernardo (Peabody, Mass.), Joe Ramsay (Peabody, Mass.), Andrew Shaw (Anaheim, Calif.), and Tyler Grothusen (Ramsey, N.J.).
Juan Brenes (Santo Domingo, D.R.) toe-poked home his team-leading seventh goal of the year to tie the game at 1, but it wasn't enough to overcome two second-half goals by the Saints, as the Mustangs dropped to 5-9-2 overall and 2-6-1 in conference play.Emmanuel improves to 8-8-2 and 4-4-1 in the GNAC.
Cameron Messier (Belchertown, Mass.) scored twice in a span of ten minutes in the second half, with both assists coming from senior Jordan Maurer (Florence, Mass.).
Messier poked past Mount Ida junior Riley Ford (Guilderland, N.Y.) in the 59th minute and then blasted from the left side ten minutes later for his second and third goals of the year.
Ford made five saves in the loss, while Saints freshman Jonathan Ferrarini (Hanover, Mass.) made three stops.
The Saints took the lead in the 32nd minute when Maurer capitalized on a loose ball that he was able to roll past Ford with the help of a Wojciech Kopacz (Garfield, N.J.) assist.
Less than four minutes later, Brenes took a pass from Yager and got around Ferrarini before sliding the ball into the lower right corner.
The Mustangs were outshot 17-11 and Emmanuel had a 7-2 advantage in corner kick.
Mount Ida will play their final regular season game and a tune-up for the Conference playoffs next Wednesday when they host local rivals Pine Manor College at Alumni field at 3:30 p.m.
Emmanuel's next game is their GNAC quarterfinals matchup against #3 seeded Johnson & Wales on Saturday, October 29th at 1:00 pm.
