BOSTON, Mass. – Following ten years of coaching the Emmanuel College Men's Soccer team, Head Coach Colin Goin has announced that he stepped down from his position, effective immediately. Goin notified the Athletic Department administration and the Men's Soccer team of his decision on Monday, January 25.
Goin began his career with the Saints in 2006 as an Assistant Coach under former Head Coach Julio Avila. He assisted Avila for three seasons before being promoted to Head Coach in 2009 when Avila transitioned over to Emmanuel's first-ever Men's Golf Head Coach.
For the last seven seasons, Goin coached the Saints to a total of 43 wins and leaves as the program's all-time winningest Head Coach. He led Emmanuel to a total of five GNAC tournament berths including a Semifinals appearance in 2011 and Quarterfinals appearances in 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
The 2011 campaign marked the program's best season to date in which the Saints compiled an overall record of 11-6-4 and set several single-season records including wins (11), points (111), goals (43), assists (25) and shutouts (11). The 11 total shutouts ranked tied for 20th in the country among Division III programs.
"Colin was an instrumental part of a young program's growth," said Alexis Mastronardi, Emmanuel College Director of Athletics & Recreation. "To have someone commit to a program for 10 years shows their level of passion and dedication not only to the program, but also Emmanuel and we're very appreciative of everything Coach [Goin] did for the Saints."
In seven seasons, Goin coached a total of 11 All-GNAC players as well as one All-New England player during his reign as Head Coach at Emmanuel.
"I'd like to thank Emmanuel College for giving me the opportunity to coach the sport I love and all my former players for helping build the foundation of EC Men's Soccer," said Goin. "I'll always consider myself a Saint and look back fondly on my time at Emmanuel."
Coach Goin grew up in New York, playing soccer for one of the most well-known clubs in New York, the F.C. Westchester soccer club. Goin attended Long Island University-Southampton College, where he played defense and midfield for the men's soccer team. Goin's team was nationally ranked every year, reaching as high as third in the nation one season.
