BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel's Garrett Charette (West Springfield, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season. Charette's most recent conference recognition comes after the senior captain led the Saints to consecutive GNAC shutout victories last week, posting a 1-0 win over Lasell and a 3-0 win at Suffolk.
Charette made three saves in the Saints' victory over Lasell last Tuesday night. The win marked the first time the Emmanuel men's soccer program has ever beaten the Lasers. Charette went on to make eight stops in the Saints' win at Suffolk on Saturday night, notching his fifth shutout of the season and setting a new program record for single-season shutouts.
The pair of shutout victories last week gave Charette 13 career shutouts and set a new Emmanuel men's soccer program record, as he is now the Saints' all-time leader in this category. Charette broke the prior record of 12 career shutouts held by the College's current Assistant Sports Information Director Dan Campagna ('07).
Charette has played every single minute in net for the Saints this season and has a total of 71 saves so far in 2014, to rank 5th among the GNAC leaders. He also boasts a 1.79 goals-against-average and a .747 save percentage.
This is the second time Charette is receiving GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors this year, having been tabbed the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week earlier this season, back on September 8th. Charette has also been named the conference's top goalie two other times during his collegiate career, once as a freshman and once last year as a junior.
Charette and the Saints are back in action tonight, as they travel to Clark University for a non-conference game, salted to kick-off at 8:00 PM.
