MEN'S SOCCER DROPS 4-1 DECISION TO CLARK

Worcester, Mass. – Oscar Zapata (Lima, Peru) recorded his third career hat trick, Demetri Boumis (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) added a goal and an assist and host Clark University snapped its brief two-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over Emmanuel College in non-league men's soccer action on Monday night at a chilly Granger Soccer Turf.

The three goals for Zapata moves him into third place on the school's all-time goals scored list (31) and is his second multi-goal game of the season.

Clark improves to 6-9-1 overall this season, while the Saints see their two-game win streak in which they didn't allow a goal come to an end. They now sit at 5-7-2 in advance of their GNAC matchup on Wednesday evening with Norwich University.

The Cougars opened up the scoring relatively early when Boumis found Zapata for a 1-0 lead at 11:23.

That advantage doubled when Vaske Gjino (Worcester, Mass.) sent a ball up the left sideline that Zapata was able to track down, cut in towards the top of the box and sent a low rolling shot that got by Garrett Charette (West Springfield, Mass.) at 17:36.

Emmanuel sliced the lead in half when Stefano Gambino (Lexington, Mass.) connected with Cameron Messier (Belchertown, Mass.) for his third marker of the season before the half ended.

Zapata upped the Cougar edge back to two goals when Greg French (North Andover, Mass.) sent a corner kick into the box that Zapata flicked into the left upper corner of the goal in the 57th minute.

A pair of freshmen connected for Clark's fourth goal when Danny Fuentes (Weston, Fla.) gained control of the ball and then sent a long diagonal pass to the left side of the field that Boumis was able to corral and then fired a shot with a defender on his side that whizzed into the upper middle of the goal past Charrette at 86:39 for his first collegiate score.

The Scarlet and White held a 21-11 edge in shots, while the Saints were ahead in corner kicks (4-3). Alistair Richardson (Tolland, Conn.), making his second straight start, earned his second career victory, while stopping five shots.

Clark will return to action on Saturday with a league contest against Emerson College. First touch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
