BARRETT POWERS ALBERTUS MAGNUS PAST MEN'S SOCCER, 3-2
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior midfielder Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) recorded a hat trick to lead the Albertus Magnus College men’s soccer team past Emmanuel College, 3-2, Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Celentano Field. The Saints drop to 3-6-2 overall and 2-3 in the GNAC while the loss lifts the Falcons to 9-3-2 and 3-1-1.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior midfielder Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) recorded a hat trick to lead the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team past Emmanuel College, 3-2, Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Celentano Field. The Saints drop to 3-6-2 overall and 2-3 in the GNAC while the loss lifts the Falcons to 9-3-2 and 3-1-1.
After 33 minutes of scoreless action, Barrett found the back of the net for his first score of the day, cleaning up a ball played into the 18-yard box that was bobbled by EC senior goalkeeper Garrett Charette (West Springfield, Mass.).
Albertus held a 14-7 advantage in shots in the opening frame while the corner kick opportunities were all square at 4-4.
Barrett made it 2-0 at the 54:25 marker with an unassisted tally and minutes later in the 62nd minute added an insurance goal that would prove to be the game-winner to give Albertus Magnus a 3-0 lead with 29:40 left in the action.
The Saints continued to pressure and got on the board minutes later as junior midfielder David Field (Laguna Nigel, Calif.) scored his third goal of the year to cut the lead to 3-1 with 24:30 remaining in the second half.
Field made it interesting with his second goal of the game with a little more than eight minutes left in regulation to make it a 3-2 contest but the hosts were able to hang on for the win.
Charette finished the game with six saves while rookie goalkeepers Adam Miedzinski (Hamden, Conn.) and Griffen Volta (Orange, Conn.) combined to make five saves in the victory.
Emmanuel returns to action on Tuesday, October 14 when they host Lasell College at 7:00 PM in another GNAC tilt. The Falcons return to the pitch on Monday, Oct. 13 at 1:00 PM for a GNAC battle vs. Mount Ida College.
