NORTON, Mass. – Wheaton College men's soccer senior forward Travis Blair (Hastings, N.Y.) became the second student-athlete in program history to join the 100-point club on Tuesday evening with a penalty kick goal and one assist in the Lyons 4-0 win over Emmanuel College in non-conference action at Keefe Field.
Blair set up Wheaton's first tally of the contest at 6:54 with a back heel pass just inside the box to senior Scott Enman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who followed with a strike into the upper left corner for his second goal of the season (ninth career). The duo worked the ball down the left flank and curved their way through a 3-on-2 situation for the goal after Enman initially received a pass from just past the halfway line.
In the 61st minute, Blair notched his 100th career point converting a penalty kick into the top right corner of the net after being pulled down by a center back on the left side of the box. Blair is now 7-for-7 in his career on penalty kick chances after today's marker.
Blair's effort down the right flank in the 65th minute also resulted in a goal for the Lyons to make the score 3-0 as his shot from the wing was redirected into the net by an Emmanuel student-athlete who was attempting to clear the ball resulting in an own goal. First-year forward/back Liam Daniels (New York, N.Y.) added his second career goal at 68:00 to cap the scoring or the Blue and White. Daniels manufactured the tally by stealing the ball just outside the top of the box and, after securing possession, rifled a shot into the upper right corner.
Emmanuel senior goalkeeper Garrett Charette (West Springfield, Mass.) stopped 12 shots, two shy of tying his career-high, in the loss. Wheaton first-year goalkeeper David Sorkenn (River Edge, N.J.) and junior Jackson Towle (South Berwick, Maine) were not tested with a shot on net in 45 minutes of action, respectively. The Lyons outshot the Saints, 34-7, and won the corners matchup 7-1.
Wheaton is off to its first 5-0-0 start since 2001 and 3-0-0 against Emmanuel College in the all-time series, which dates back to 2012. In 2001, the Lyons posted a 21-2-0 record, captured both the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Lyons return to action on this Saturday against Wesleyan (Conn.) at home on Nordin Field with first-touch scheduled for 7 p.m. Emmanuel (1-1-1) travels to Lesley University on Thursday for an 8 p.m. matchup.
