BOSTON, Mass. – Two goals for Ole Eriksen led the way Wednesday night as the Emerson Men's Soccer Team topped the visiting Emmanuel Saints 2-1. With the win the Lions improve to 5-4 while Emmanuel drops to 5-7.
The first half was fairly even keeled with Emerson only outshooting the Saints 8-to-7 in the half, but the extra shot made the difference as Adam Halliday dropped a ball down the left side that Ole Eriksen needed only two touches to put away into the left corner for a 1-0 lead headed into the half.
The second half saw the Lions strike again only eight minutes into the half with Eriksen striking again off an Emerson corner kick that he went up to put a header into the top right corner.
The Lions hoped to close it out but Emmanuel fought back in the half putting up six to Emerson's two fouls to try and control the game as they scrapped back in the 76th minute as sophomore forward Stefano Sainato (Albany, N.Y.) put a cross in front of the net that senior forward Allan Parrelli (Reading, Mass.) put away to cut the lead. The Lions were able to hang on with Carter Bowers making seven saves on the night, one in the waning minutes of the game to close out the 2-1 win. For the Saints, junior keeper Garrett Charette (West Springfield, Mass.) made eight saves in goal.
Next up the Lions will travel to WPI to continue NEWMAC play for a 1:30 p.m. start in Worcester, Mass. Emmanuel returns to action on Friday when they also hit the road, heading to Northfield, Vt. for a GNAC tilt against Norwich University at 7:00 PM.
