NORTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel Men's Soccer Team wrapped up the 2012 season with a non-conference loss to Wheaton College on Wednesday afternoon. The host Lyons used a five-goal first half to top the visiting Saints, 7-1. The win boosted Wheaton to 9-6-4, while the Saints end the season at 4-12-2.
Wheaton jumped out in front early with Noah Kossof scoring in the 12th minute of play. Will Nesbitt and Scott Enman then scored back to back in the 24th and 29th minutes, respectively. Another Enman marker at 35:46 put the Lyons up, 4-0. A final tally by the hosts just before the break would give Wheaton a 5-0 advantage at halftime.
The Saints rallied out of the break and Emmanuel's defense held the Lyons scoreless for the next 40 minutes. Emmanuel got on the scoreboard for the Saints' lone goal of the contest in the 68th minute. Two Saints rookies combined for the score. Freshman Charlie Umland (Hanover, N.H.) assisted David Field (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) for his 3rd goal of the season.
Wheaton would tack two more on before it was over, with both markers coming in the final five minutes of play. Michael Cronin scored in the 86th minute and Michael Williams made it a 7-1 game with his goal at 88:59.
Emmanuel's freshman keeper James Withers (East Taunton, Mass.) made five saves in the effort for the Saints. Wheaton goalie Jeff Paer made one save and earned the win for the Lyons.
