CADETS SHUTOUT SAINTS, 2-0

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men's Soccer Team dropped a 2-0 decision to the visiting Cadets of Norwich University on Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action played at Roberto Clemente Field.  With the conference win, Norwich improves to 7-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in GNAC play, stretching their unbeaten streak to four games.  Emmanuel drops to 3-6-2 on the season and 2-4-0 in the league with the loss.

Norwich University Head Coach Kyle Dezotell entered tonight's game needing just one more win to surpass two coaching milestones. The Cadets' victory over the Saints tonight gave Dezotell his 100th career win and broke Norwich's all-time coaching record, as he now has 89 wins while at the college.

Emmanuel alum and four-year starter for the Saints Mat Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.) made his first return to Clemente Field since graduating last spring.  Koenemann returned to Boston on Wednesday night, now serving as an Assistant Coach at Norwich University.

The Cadets held a solid advantage in first half shots, doubling up the Saints in scoring opportunities, 12-6.  Norwich got on the board late in the opening frame, scoring in the 43rd minute.  Junior defender Wesley Keslin (Brossard, Quebec) made a short pass from the left side to a cutting Joe Young (McLean, Va.), who drilled the ball into the back of the Emmanuel net, giving the Cadets a 1-0 edge.  Young's goal, his fourth of the season, would hold up as the game-winner.

Another Norwich marker midway through the second stanza would add an insurance goal to the Cadets' total. Junior defender Ryan Campbell (Damascus, Md.)
got his head on a perfectly played ball from sophomore midfielder Chris Bristol (Clinton, Conn.) to put the visitors up, 2-0, in the 68th minute.

The Saints got several scoring opportunities in the second half, firing off 9 shots, to just 2 by the Cadets.  The Saints out-shot the Cadets, 15-14, for the game and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Norwich sophomore Greg Payne (State College, Pa.), this week's GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week, earned the shutout for the Cadets, going the full 90 minutes in net and making 7 saves.  The Cadets have now gone 380+ consecutive minutes without allowing a goal.

Sophomore keeper Garrett Charette (West Springfield, Mass.) took the loss for the Saints, making 4 saves in goal for Emmanuel.

Emmanuel is back in action this Saturday afternoon, when the Saints host the Lions of Emerson College in a GNAC men's and women's soccer double-header.  The men's game is slated to kick off at 12:00 PM.  Norwich will host Saint Joseph's College (Me.) on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
