MEN'S SOCCER TOPPED BY JOHNSON & WALES, 3-1
Sophomore Ray Durski (Monroe, N.J.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Johnson & Wales University men’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory against Emmanuel in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Pierce Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales struck just :23 into the game when Durski headed in a cross from sophomore Kyle Metz (St. James, N.Y.) for the 1-0 advantage. The Metz to Durski connection was at it again at the 13:00 mark when Durski headed in his second goal of the game to put the Wildcats up 2-0. JWU extended their lead to 3-0 in the 37th minute as senior captain Patrick Nally (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) headed in a crossing pass from Durski. The Wildcats took the three goal lead into halftime after controlling the action with an 8-4 advantage in shots for the stanza.
Emmanuel rallied in the second half and out shot the Wildcats by a 10-5 margin. The visiting Saints got on the board at the 83:34 mark after a JWU foul in the box resulted in a converted penalty kick for senior Kevin Shirley (Madison, Conn.). It would not be enough, however as Johnson & Wales took the 3-1 victory.
Freshman Austin Scoggin (Mattituck, N.Y.) made five saves in the victory for Johnson & Wales while sophomore Garrett Charette (West Springfield, Mass.) had four stops in the loss for Emmanuel.
With the victory Johnson & Wales improves to 3-1-1 on the season and 2-0-0 in the GNAC while Emmanuel falls to 1-3-2 overall and 0-2 in league play. The Wildcats will return to action on Monday, September 17th when they travel to intra-state rival Salve Regina for a non-conference contest, starting at 4:00 p.m. The Saints will return to action on Wednesday when they face off against Suffolk University in another GNAC match at 7:00 p.m.
