Nashua, N.H. – Senior forward Kevin Shirley (Madison, Conn.) redirected a Kevin Esposito (Gales Ferry, Conn.) cross pass with a header through defensive traffic for the only goal of the match in the 49th minute as Emmanuel held off host Daniel Webster, 1-0 before a season-opening record crowd of more than 300 in the season opener for both clubs Saturday at Eagle Field.

Emmanuel (1-0) used solid midfield play to help finish with a 21-6 total shots advantage (8-2 on goal) as Garrett Charette earned the shutout victory. The win also marks the first time since the 2009 season the Saints opened the year with a "W".
Rookie Sean Hamilton was solid in the his collegiate debut for the Eagles (0-1), who with 11 freshman on the roster, sport the youngest squad the program has had in four years.
Junior Paul Hoy (Merrimack, N.H.) posted both DWC shots on goal. Seniors Andrew Donovan (Milford, N.H.) and Elliot Kilgore were solid defensively.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday when they host Gordon College on another regional matchup beginning at 4:00 p.m. Emmanuel hosts UMass Boston on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Clemente Field.
