Lasers Down Saints Men's Lacrosse in Conference Action
NEWTON, Mass. - Saints Men's Lacrosse (1-8, 1-2 GNAC) dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup (GNAC) with the Lasell University Lasers (4-4, 2-0 GNAC), 13-8, on Saturday afternoon at a rainy Grellier Field. The two sides were deadlocked at six at the break, but the Lasers used a strong fourth quarter to earn the victory.
NEWTON, Mass. - Saints Men's Lacrosse (1-8, 1-2 GNAC) dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup (GNAC) with the Lasell University Lasers (4-4, 2-0 GNAC), 13-8, on Saturday afternoon at a rainy Grellier Field. The two sides were deadlocked at six at the break, but the Lasers used a strong fourth quarter to earn the victory.
Finnegan McCormack (Milford, Penn.) opened up the scoring at the 12 minute mark when he found the back of the net off a pass from Anthony DeRosa (Hudson, N.H.). A minute later, Cooper Mehlhorn (South Portland, Maine) would tie the game for the Emmanuel. DeRosa would add another assist a minute later as Patrick Mulhern (Pembroke, Mass.) fired one in to give the Lasers the lead. Jason Martin (Billerice, Mass.) would increase the lead to two, with an assist from Landon Reyes (Westfield, Mass). Sanzio DiGesualdo (Niskayuna, N.Y.) put the Saints back within one, courtesy of Ryan Etzo (Bedford, N.H.) to make it 3-2 going into the second quarter.
Nikko Kelly (Dorchester, Mass.) would tie the game with his first career goal just 61 seconds into the second quarter, but the Lasers answered 28 seconds later with a goal of their own to re-take the lead. Emmanuel went on to score three goals in a row to regain the lead at 6-4. The Lasers were able to claw back before the break, netting the final two goals of the opening thirty minutes to bring the game level.
Samuel Yan (Cranston, R.I.) and Ryan Etzo (Bedford, N.H.) both found the back of the net to give the Saints another two-goal advantage in the early moments of the second half. Lasell's DeRosa slotted one into the net to bring Lasell within one going into the fourth quarter.
An offensive explosision from the Lasers in the final period of play propelled Lasell to their third consecutive victory. Lasell held the Saints scoreless over the last 15 minutes, while posting six goals in the final 10 minutes to earn the hard-fought conference victory, 13-8.
Mulhern finished the matchup with a hat-trick of goals and assists. McCromack, Martin, Reyes, and Will McCarthy (Townsend, Mass.) each tallied two goals apiece while Matthew Carbone (Needham, Mass.) finished with a match-best 12 ground balls. Etzo led Emmanuel in scoring with two goals while five other Saints tallied a goal in the loss.
Up Next, Lasell will travel to Henniker, NH to take on New England College in GNAC play next Saturday (3/30) at 1 PM. The Saints will return to Clemente Field on Wednesday (3/27) for a nonconference tilt with Wheaton College.
