THE LEAD – Senior Ryan Castle (Boxford, Mass.) set the Emmanuel single-game points record and the Saints used 13 straight goals over two quarters to pull away in Tuesday night's 20-6 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over New England College at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Leading 4-3 with 8:31 to play in the second quarter, the Saints closed the half with five straight scores and opened the third quarter with eight more to build a 17-3 lead over the Pilgrims.
- In the early goings, EC got off to a quick start with three goals over the first 10 minutes of action including back-to-back scores by senior Ryan Castle (Boxford, Mass.) to give the hosts a 3-0 cushion.
- NEC got on the board with 2:07 to play in the first on a marker by junior Matt Daley (Plymouth, Mass.)
- EC first year Ryan Etzo (Bedford, N.H.) made it 4-1 five minutes into the second quarter and then the Pilgrims answered with scores by senior Devon Saeger (Chester Springs, Penn.) and sophomore Thomas Norton (Mansfield, Mass.) to pull NEC to within one at 4-3 with 8:31 remaining in the half before Emmanuel's surge to pull away.
- In the fourth, Saeger and Etzo traded goals to move the needle to 18-4 before junior Aidan Sullivan (Burlington, Conn.) and Daley matched scores to make it 19-5.
- Daley and EC first year Samuel Yan (Cranston, R.I.) capped the scoring with matching goals late in the fourth to account for the 20-6 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Castle finished with 10 points on six goals and four assists to set the new single-game points record, previously held by Charlie Moran '18 at nine on April 11, 2017 vs. Anna Maria.
- 11 different players scored for the Saints in the win. Junior Thomas Quigley (Marblehead, Mass.) finished with three while Etzo and sophomore Sanzio DiGesualdo (Niskayuna, N.Y.) added two apiece.
- Daley finished with four points on three goals and one assist while Saeger also picked up four points on two goals and two helpers for the Pilgrims.
- EC senior Randy Castle (Boxford, Mass.) earned the win in goal, his 12th of the year, to move into a tie for second all-time for wins in a single-season with Austin Lauzier's 2015 season total.
- Sophomore Connor Almstrom (Cumberland, R.I.) suffered the setback despite a 16-save outing for New England College.
- EC outshot the Pilgrims 53-24 on the night.
- The win moves the all-time series to a deadlock at 2-2 over four career meetings.
- NEC will be joining the GNAC next season and become a conference match-up for the Saints going forward.

- The Saints close out the regular-season with a 12-5 record including a 9-1 mark in GNAC play to earn the No. 1 seed in the 2023 GNAC Men's Lacrosse tournament. The Saints will host No. 8 Norwich University in the Quarterfinals this Saturday, April 29 at 1:00 PM.
- NEC has a quick turnaround, facing Eastern Nazarene College tomorrow evening at 8:00 PM in Quincy, Mass. in their final NECC contest of the year.
