THE LEAD – Emmanuel College coasted past Regis College, 18-2, Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse action at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a slow start, the Saints got on the board with 8:11 to play in the first to open the flood gates for their largest goal-output of the season. First year Cole Cloney (Medfield, Mass.) found the back of the net first and capped the quarter's scoring with his second of the action to make it 4-0, EC heading into the second.
- The Saints dominated the next 15 minutes of play, outscoring Regis by a 9-1 margin in the stanza to control a 13-1 lead by halftime. In the frame, senior Ryan Castle (Boxford, Mass.) and first year Ryan Etzo (Bedford, N.H.) each scored three times. The lone Pride goal came midway through the action on a man-up score by Nate Aresenault (Westford, Mass.) to make it 9-1 with 5:57 left in the half before the Saints netted the final four goals over the last 3:33 on the clock to account for the 12-goal game at the break.
- Emmanuel held Regis scoreless in the third as first year Samuel Yan (Cranston, R.I.) netted two in the frame including the first of his collegiate career while senior Drew Chant (Warwick, R.I.) also scored to bump the lead to 16-1 through three quarters.
- In the fourth, first year Ethan Madura (Clinton, Conn.) potted his first collegiate goal followed by a score from sophomore Chase Greenlaw (Warwick, R.I.). Regis found the back of the net before the final whistle as first year Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine) netted his team-leading 15th goal with 26 seconds remaining to wrap the action at 18-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The win was the seventh straight for the Saints marking the program's longest winning streak since the 2015 campaign when they won 11-straight.
- EC outshot the Pride 59-17 on the night and also won 17 of 24 faceoffs including nine from first year Ty Carroll (Haverill, Mass.) and eight from junior Nolan Bosse (Abington, Mass.)
- Senior Randy Castle (Boxford, Mass.) earned the win in goal playing the first 30 minutes and making three saves to move to 8-1 overall on the year. Junior Eric Anderson (Sparta, N.J.) played the second half, making five saves in the outing.
- Regis netminder Robby Fuller (Wolfeboro, N.H.) made 12 saves over the first 45 minutes before Devin Hammon (Chicopee, Mass.) stopped two shots over the final quarter.
- On the offensive end, Castle led the way with six points on three goals and three assists. Chant and Etzo each finished with three goals while Yan added two goals and two helpers.
