THE LEAD – The Mary Washington Eagles outscored the Emmanuel Saints 10-2 in the first half of Friday's non-conference men's lacrosse game, providing plenty of offense for UMW on their way to a 14-6 win at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trading goals in the first 4:07 of the first quarter, the Eagles took control of the game with the final three goals of the quarter, for a 4-1 lead. Junior Henry Moag (Towson, Md.) scored twice with sophomore Mike Seraphin-Jones (Fairfax, Va.) netting one of his own, helping UMW to the three-goal lead through the first quarter.
- The Eagles and Saints again split goals to start the second quarter, but Mary Washington would start to pull away by the end of the first half, potting the last four goals of the second quarter. Four different Eagles scored in the half-ending streak, including Moag finishing off a first half hat trick, as UMW held a 10-2 at the half.
- Mary Washington would open up a double-digit advantage in the third quarter by outscoring EC 3-1 in the 15-minute period. The Eagles again spread out the offensive output with three different goal scorers in the quarter, boosting their lead to 13-3.
- Saints first-year Cole Cloney (Medfield, Mass.) and senior Colin Dickinson (Barre, Vt.) helped Emmanuel outscore Mary Washington in the fourth quarter, but the hill to climb for EC was too steep, as the Eagles claimed the 14-6 victory on Friday afternoon.
