Wildcats Offense Overpowers Men's Lacrosse in GNAC Tilt
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Johnson & Wales Men's Lacrosse team defeated the Saints of Emmanuel (Mass.) College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up on Saturday afternoon, 17-6. JWU improved to 5-3 and 2-0 in GNAC play while Emmanuel dropped to 1-5 and 0-3 in GNAC play.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Johnson & Wales Men's Lacrosse team defeated the Saints of Emmanuel (Mass.) College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up on Saturday afternoon, 17-6. JWU improved to 5-3 and 2-0 in GNAC play while Emmanuel dropped to 1-5 and 0-3 in GNAC play.
The Wildcats opened the game on a on a 3-1 run behind two goals from Chris Calisto (Jericho, N.Y.). With the Wildcats leading 3-1, JWU and Emmanuel traded back and forth goals over the remainder of the first period, giving JWU a 5-3 lead heading into the second frame. JWU scored four straight to open the second quarter, before the Saints grabbed one back in the final minutes of the half, giving JWU a 9-4 advantage at the break.
The Wildcats continued their pace in the second half, outscoring the visitors 8-2 in the final two frames, taking the game 17-6 in regulation. The Wildcats were led by Calisto, who found the back of the net five times while Mike Catuosco (Commack, N.Y.) went 20/24 on faceoffs and grabbed 22 ground balls.
EC junior Ryan Castle (Boxford, Mass.) led the Saints with three goals while sophomore Thomas Quigley (Marblehead, Mass.) added a goal and two assists.
JWU gets back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on the Dean Bulldogs in a GNAC tilt starting at 3:30 PM. Emmanuel is back the same day, traveling to Wheaton (MA) for a 7:00 PM evening affair.
