THE LEAD – Tied 10-10 through three quarters, the Kean Cougars outscored the Emmanuel Saints 6-2 over the final 15 minutes, leading them to a 16-12 victory on Monday night as Kean remains unbeaten to start 2022.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints trailed by as many as five in the first half to get the game back to all square in the fourth quarter. Senior Derek DelVecchio (Saugus, Mass.) gave Emmanuel their first lead since the early going, scoring to start the fourth, giving EC an 11-10 lead.
- Nearly four minutes later, the Cougars responded with junior Dante Magliano (Washington Township, N.J.) tying the game back at 11-11.
- Magliano's goal with 8:50 remaining was the start of six straight for Kean over the span of 7:43. Senior Brady Moore (Bay Head, N.J.) scored twice while junior Connor Batjer (Riverhead, N.J.), senior Tommy Pellegrino (Wayne, N.J.), and grad student Kyle Ryder (Congers, N.Y.) added a goal each, as the Cougars reestablished control and led 16-11 with 1:07 to play.
- Emmanuel senior Colin Dickinson (Barre, Vt.) scored with 15 seconds remaining to pull EC within four, but it proved too late for a Saints comeback as they fell 16-12 in the non-conference loss.
- The Saints trailed 8-3 with less than two minutes remaining in the first half, but thanks to a 6-1 run between the end of the second and through the middle of the third, including four goals by junior Ryan Castle (Boxford, Mass.), Emmanuel found themselves right back in the game and in a 9-9 tie.
