BOSTON, Mass. – Senior attack Alec Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) recorded 10 points on five goals and five assists to power the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's lacrosse team over host Emmanuel College, 16-6, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Roberto Clemente Field. The win was the first of the season for the Leopards who improve to 1-6 while the loss drops the Saints to 1-6 overall.
Wentworth jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by junior Mike Coakley (Flemington, N.J.) and Paradis before the Saints responded with back-to-back scores by seniors Chris Curtis (Ashland, Mass.) and Justin Kelly (Collegeville, Pa.) to make it 2-2 with 1:56 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Leopards opened the game up scoring the next six goals to take control of the action with an 8-2 cushion at the 8:40 mark in the third quarter following a man-up score by sophomore Kevin Butler (Jefferson, Mass.).
The Saints ended the run with Curtis's second goal of the action to cut the lead to 8-3 with 6:19 left in the third but another man-up goal by Coakley put the lead back to six at 9-3. Over the final five minutes of the third, EC outscored the Leopards 2-1 with goals by sophomore Colin Conley (Dudley, Mass.) and senior Michael Rogers (New Haven, Conn.) to give the hosts some hope heading into the final frame trailing 10-5.
WIT crushed any chance of a comeback as the Leopards scored six unanswered goals to open the fourth quarter and put the game well out of reach at 16-5. The Saints added a late tally by rookie Will Petraglia (Wexford, Pa.) to account for the 16-6 final.
The 10 points for Paradis ranks tied for sixth most in a single-game by a WIT player while his five assists also tie him for the sixth most helpers in a game.
