LAUZIER RECEIVES SECOND ECAC WEEKLY NOD
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College’s junior men’s lacrosse goalie, Austin Lauzier, has been named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Lauzier’s most recent honor came after leading the Saints to the program’s first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship in a 9-3 win over Becker College on Sunday.
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College's junior men's lacrosse goalie, Austin Lauzier, has been named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. Lauzier's most recent honor came after leading the Saints to the program's first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship in a 9-3 win over Becker College on Sunday.
Lauzier started and played all but 11 minutes between the pipes for the Saints in the three games comprising the 2104 GNAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament. With a 13-3 win over Johnson & Wales in the quarterfinals, an 11-2 victory over Norwich in the semifinals and the six-goal defeat of Becker in the championship, Lauzier allowed his opponents only seven goals on the week.
In Sunday's championship game, the Bedford, New Hampshire native made 10 saves en route to his 15th victory of the season. With his 27 total saves on the week and an incredible .794 save percentage, Lauzier was selected the GNAC Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
Lauzier and Saints will now take their 15-3 record and their 15-game win streak into the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on May 7th. Emmanuel's first round opponent will be announced during the selection show this Sunday night (5/4).
