STRONG DEFENSE POWERS MEN’S LACROSSE PAST NORWICH, 7-1
BOSTON, Mass. – Lead by a strong defensive team effort, the Emmanuel College men’s lacrosse team defeated Norwich University, 7-1, Wednesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field. The win their ninth straight, setting a new single-season record for wins and lifting their overall record to 9-3 on the year while improving to a perfect 7-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. The loss drops the Cadets to 3-9 overall and 3-3 in the GNAC.

NU opened the game's scoring just 1:57 into the action as senior middie Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.) netted his team-leading 21st goal of the season, finishing off a feed from senior middie Zachary McMillan (Brunswick, Maine).
Emmanuel would tie the game at 1-1 with 9:56 left in the opening quarter following a score by junior attack Ryan Sabuda (Indianapolis, Ind.). Strong goalkeeping by both teams kept the score knotted at 1-all heading into the second quarter of action.
Sophomore middie Chris Curtis (Ashland, Mass.) broke the tie with him 18th goal of the year at the 11:03 marker in the second to give EC the lead for good at 2-1. The Cadets were able to get several scoring opportunities in the frame including a pair of man-up opportunities but the Saints defensive unit held its ground to preserve the one goal cushion. With 3:27 left in the half, sophomore middie Michael Rogers (New Haven, Conn.) made it 3-1 with an unassisted goal. The Saints were able to make one final surge to close the half as freshman attack Donnie Litzelman (Exeter, N.H.) converted a feed from sophomore attack Kaile MacLean-Daley (Moretown, Vt.) with just eight seconds to play to give the hosts a 4-1 cushion heading into the break.
Litzelman opened the second half's scoring with his fifth goal of the year with the help of an assist from rookie attackman Tony Cibelli (Westboro, Mass.) to bump the lead to 5-1. Later in the quarter, Cibelli would make it 6-1, beat his defender with a strong move to the goal to deposit his 13th marker of the year with 3:57 left in the quarter.
MacLean-Daley would wrap the games scoring with his 21st goal of the year with 3:21 remaining in the fourth to account for the 7-1 final.
Junior goalie Austin Lauzier (Bedford, N.H.) continued his impressive stretch in net, making nine saves on ten attempts for a .900 save percentage. NU senior goalie Mark Paradiso (Westford, Mass.) made 13 saves for the Cadets.
The Saints defensive unit, which has allowed just two goals over the last 180 minutes of action to each of the last two GNAC champions, killed off all seven man-up opportunities for Norwich.
EC returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Becker College at 3:00 PM in their final regular-season home contest of the year. Prior to the start of the game, the Emmanuel athletic department will take a moment to honor the Men's Lacrosse team's lone senior, Brian O'Regan (Milton, Mass.). Norwich returns to action the same day when they host Mount Ida at 1:00 PM.
