DORCHESTER, Mass. – For the first time in over seven years, the Emmanuel College men's golf program claimed first place as a team, defeating Dean and Elms on Friday afternoon at the William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park.
The Saints shot a team score of 323, besting Dean by six shots and Elms by eight. The team total of 323 is also the sixth-lowest team score in the program's history and the lowest since 324 was shot in October of 2016 at the first day of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship.
The last team event win for Emmanuel came on October 12, 2016, at the Mitchell Invitational, with the Saints defeating Mitchell and Dean that afternoon at Shennecossett Golf Course.
Saints sophomore Ian Reynolds (East Haven, Conn.) finished second individually on the afternoon, shooting a seven-over, 77, to lead the Saints. First-year Ryan Brunet (Peabody, Mass.) locked up his first collegiate top-five finish, shooting a collegiate career-low of 78 (+8), good for third on the day.
Sophomore Diego Serra (New Bedford, Mass.) also fired off a career collegiate-best, shooting 11-over-par, 81, and a sixth-place finish. Junior Gianni Ridolfi (Kittery, Maine) shot 87 as the final counting score for the team. Senior Thomas Sullivan (Whitman, Mass.) carded a career-low 92 in the season-ending event.
The GNAC Player of the Year and medalist of last week's GNAC Championship, Michael Keefe (Milford, Mass.) of Dean claimed the top spot on the day. A birdie on the 18th hole resulted in a six-over, 76, beating out Reynolds by a single shot.
The fall season comes to an end with Emmanuel's victory on Friday at the Emmanuel Invitational. The Saints return in late-March for the spring portion of their schedule.
