HINGHAM, Mass. – Saints junior Ian Reynolds (East Haven, Conn.) fell one shot shy of medalist honors on Wednesday afternoon at the Saints Invitational while the home-side Saints finished in third as a team in the event.
A birdie on 18 for Reynolds made him the leader in the clubhouse, carding a round of 6-over, 78, giving him a one-shot advantage as the scores continued to roll in. It wasn't until about an hour after his round concluded that Roger Williams first-year Samuel Johnson came in with a 5-over, 77, including six pars on the back nine, giving him the one-shot individual win.
The second-place finish for Reynolds matches the best finish of his collegiate career, joining the second place he turned in last spring at the Wentworth Invite.
Senior Connor Maguire (Old Lyme, Conn.) turned in a round of, 14-over, 86, placing him T10 on the day. First-year Ryan Brunet (Peabody, Mass.) had his best round in his early collegiate career, shooting an 87, for 13th place.
Roger Williams claimed the team win thanks to the late-round heroics of Johnson. His 77 helped RWU to a team score of 328, besting second-place Norwich by four strokes. The Saints team total of 347 was good for third over the 360 team score turned in by Elms.
The Saints are back to play after a week off, returning to South Shore Country Club on Sept. 28 for the EC Invite. Tee times are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
