CASCO, Maine – University of Maine-Farmington topped an eight-team field with a 306 card en route to winning the 15th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago Golf Resort on Tuesday.
The Beavers featured three individuals in the top four overall, as junior Eric Aguiar (Thornton, N.H.) captured Medalist honors with an even-par 72 (35-37), senior Trevor Hisler (Skowhegan, Maine) placed third with a 76, and senior Gavin Brickley (Plymouth, N.H.) posted a 77 to help Maine-Farmington clinch the first Queenan Memorial title in team history.
Aguiar is just the second individual to par the Queenan tourney and first since former Saint Joseph's standout Michael Caron '17 shot a 72 at the 2014 event.
Tourney-host Saint Joseph's College finished second with a 319 card, University of Southern Maine was third with a 324, Maine Maritime Academy placed fourth after shooting a 325, and University of New England shot a collective 343 to finish fifth. Thomas College (345), Husson University's 'B' team (350), and Emmanuel College (369) rounded out the group of competing institutions.
For the Saints, senior Colin Cordero (Bolton, Conn.) carded the low round for the team with an 85 in his opening round of the 2017 season.
The yearly tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year as a student-athlete at Saint Joseph's.
