WESTFIELD, Mass. – Emmanuel College carded a combined 358 to place eighth overall at the Westfield State Invitational Golf Tournament at Tekoa Country Club on Thursday afternoon. Rhode Island College's Tom Sheran won a sudden death playoff to win the individual crown, leading the RIC Anchormen to the team title.
Sheran and Albertus Magnus College's Aaron Macchia each carded rounds of 2-over par 73, but Sheran dropped a two-foot par putt on the 17th hole, the first sudden-death playoff hole to earn medalist honors.
Sheran's RIC club also took home the team title with all five players carding rounds in the 70's.
Host Westfield State took second place with a team score of 317 from their "Blue" Team.
For the Saints, the trio of Anthony Springthorpe (Swampscott, Mass.), Colin Cordero (Bolton, Conn.) and David Byrne (Newport, R.I.) all carded an 89 for the low round of the day among EC golfers.
The Saints return to action this weekend when they head up to Gorham, Maine for the Southern Maine Invitational to be played at Gorham Country Club on October 11th and 12th.
