DUKE NAMED GNAC MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jan. 24, 2012
Emmanuel College senior Isaiah Duke was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on January 21st. Duke led the Saints to an undefeated week, helping the Saints win all three of their conference games, as Emmanuel topped Anna Maria (74-66), Saint Joe's (69-67) and Emerson (64-48). During the three-game streak, the senior captain averaged 15 points and 9 rebounds.
Duke came up huge in the Saints' win at Saint Joseph's last Thursday, scoring a game-high 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds, while shooting 80% from the field (8-10) and 100% from the charity stripe (4-4). The Albany, New York native also netted a game-high 16 points in Emmanuel's GNAC win over Emerson on Saturday.
This is Duke's first GNAC Player of the Week recognition. He has been honored by the conference four times previously, as he was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll three times over the course of his career and was selected the GNAC Rookie of the Week once as a freshman.
Duke currently leads Emmanuel and is ranked 15th in the GNAC in scoring with 14.4 points per game. He is second on the Saints and 8th in the league in rebounding, pulling in 7.9 boards per night. Earlier this month, Duke reached two huge milestones, scoring his 1,000th career point and grabbing his 500th career rebound. He is one of just five players in Emmanuel program history to eclipse both milestones.
Isaiah Duke and the Saints will return to action tonight (1/24), when the travel to Mount Ida College for a battle with the Mustangs. The game is slated to tip off at 6:00 PM.
