O'DWYER, ROBINSON EARN SPOTS ON GNAC HOOP HONOR ROLL
Jan. 17, 2012
Two Emmanuel College hoopsters were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll following the week ending January 14th. Junior forward Fiona O'Dwyer is representing the Emmanuel women, while sophomore forward Theo Robinson has been named to the Honor Roll for the Emmanuel men. Both student-athletes have received this recognition multiple teams this season.
O'Dwyer, Emmanuel's leading scorer and rebounder, led the Saints to a 2-1 week by averaging a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. The Stamford, Connecticut native shot 43.8% (21-48) from the field for the week, while hauling in a total of 32 rebounds and blocking 5 shots. Among her 32 rebounds over the week, was O'Dwyer's 500th career board. She is now the 45th GNAC women's basketball player to surpass 500 career rebounds.
O'Dwyer has been named the conference's Player of the Week twice this season and has landed a spot on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll three times. She is currently averaging 16.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per outing. Her scoring average ranks her 5th in the GNAC, while her rebounding sets her at 2nd among the conference leaders.
Robinson was named to the Weekly Honor Roll after averaging a double-double of 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in his two games played over the week. The Springfield, Massachusetts native shot an incredible 59.1% (13-22) from the field during the stretch. In Emmanuel's six-point loss to Johnson & Wales last Saturday, Robinson netted a career-high 23 points and tied the program's single-game record with 19 rebounds.
This is Robinson's second appearance on the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll this season. He is currently third on the Saints in scoring, as he is good for 12.2 points per night. Robinson leads his team in field goal percentage, knocking down 53.4% (70-131) of his shots this season. He also leads the Saints in rebounding with 11.6 boards per game.
Robinson is the GNAC's 2nd leading rebounder and his scoring average ranks him 22nd in the league. With double figures in both major statistical categories, Robinson is one of just two GNAC men's basketball players to average a double-double on the season.
Both O'Dwyer and Robinson will return to action against GNAC opponents this week. The Emmanuel women will travel to Paxton, Mass. to take on Anna Maria on January 18th and the Emmanuel men will head north to Standish, Maine to play Saint Joseph's College on January 19th.
