Pope, Grijalva, Snowden Post All-Conference Honors, Kelly Named to Sportsmanship Team
WINTHROP, Mass. – Saints seniors Donte Pope (Middletown, Conn.) and Ryan Grijalva (Stratham, N.H.), as well as first-year Cameron Snowden (Franklin Park, N.J.), were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Second Team, Third Team, and Rookie Team, respectively, as announced by the GNAC Office on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
WINTHROP, Mass. – Saints seniors Donte Pope (Middletown, Conn.) and Ryan Grijalva (Stratham, N.H.), as well as first-year Cameron Snowden (Franklin Park, N.J.), were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Second Team, Third Team, and Rookie Team, respectively, as announced by the GNAC Office on Tuesday, Feb. 27.
Junior Teddy Kelly (Gaithersburg, Md.) added a 2023-24 All-Sportsmanship Team nod, the first GNAC honor of his career.
Pope, now a three-time GNAC Second Team player took another step forward in solidifying himself as one of the conference's premier players. In 26 games, Pope averaged 16.9 points and a career-high 9.1 rebounds per game while playing a career-high 30.4 minutes per game.
For a third consecutive season, Pope shot over 50 percent from the floor, hitting on 50.4 percent of his shots, including 37.8 percent from beyond the arc. Shooting over 50 percent from the field in all three seasons, Pope has a career field goal percentage of 51.1 percent, fifth-highest in program history.
The senior guard and three-time All-Conference Second Team nominee is fourth on Emmanuel's all-time scoring list with 1,375 points. He also became just the third Saint in program history to record a game with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds, coming on Nov. 13, 2023, in a win over Fitchburg State.
Grijalva scores a well-earned All-Conference Third Team selection, marking his first career nomination to any of the GNAC All-Conference Teams. Over 26 games, Grijalva averaged 14.5 points and career-highs of 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while playing a team-high 32.5 minutes per game.
One of the Saints most consistent scorers in 2023-24, Grijalva scored in double-digits in 22 of Emmanuel's 26 games this season. An accurate shooter throughout his career, Grijalva is inside the top 15 in three-point percentage in program history and ranks fifth in program history from the foul line, shooting 79.1 percent.
Snowden made an instant impact for the Saints as a rookie, leading all Emmanuel first-year players in scoring, averaging 7.4 points per game while playing all 26 games, including 23 starts.
A threat to score from anywhere on the floor, Snowden ranked third on the team in field goal percentage, shooting at 47.1 percent in his first season. The stretch forward added 74.6 percent from the foul line and 25 percent from beyond the arc.
For the first time since 2006-07, the Saints landed three players on the All-Conference Team thanks to Pope, Grijalva, and Snowden. Emmanuel finished their season at 12-14, bowing out in the GNAC Quarterfinals this year.
