WINTHROP, Mass. – Saints first-year Mahari Guerrier (Stoughton, Mass.) had a breakout week for Emmanuel men's basketball, averaging a double-double in two games last week to earn the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the GNAC Offices on Jan. 22.
Guerrier kicked off his week with a career-high 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting against the University of St. Joseph (Conn.) on Jan. 16. He followed that performance with a career-high 21 rebounds, to go along with 10 points in a 74-62 win over Mitchell.
Guerrier's 21-rebound performance against Mitchell ties the single-game program record for rebounds in a game. It makes him only one of four players in team history with at least 20 rebounds in a game, joining the 21 rebound games of Theo Robinson and Kyle Davis and surpassing the 20-rebound game by Donte Pope earlier this season.
The first-year guard combined for 10.5 points and 13.5 rebounds, making the most of his role as a newly-named starter over the last five games.
The Saints are back for a pair of games this week, hosting Regis on Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the Coaches vs. Cancer, Suits and Sneakers game. They finish the week on Jan. 27 with a trip to Dean for a 3:00 p.m. tip.
