Men’s Hoops Wins Sixth Straight, Tops Suffolk 82-72
BOSTON, Mass. - Senior guard Emmett Riddick (Middletown, Conn.) scored a game-high 23 points to lift the Emmanuel College men’s basketball team past Suffolk University, 82-72, Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on the Andy Yosinoff Court. The win was the sixth straight for the Saints who improved to 18-3 on the year and 6-1 in GNAC action while the loss drops the Rams to 11-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- EC opened the game on a 7-0 run before the Rams evened the score at 9-9 with 15:32 to play in the first half.
- Emmanuel responded with a 14-2 spurt capped with a layup by junior forward Marcus Fox (Danbury, Conn.) to take their largest lead of the half (23-11) with just under 10 minutes to play.
- Once again, the Rams fought back and were able to even the score by the break at 32-32 following a heads up play by senior guard George Grillakis (Lowell, Mass.) who was able to control a last second rebound and put it back in with a runner as time expired to deadlock the score heading ingot the break.
- Suffolk senior guard Thomas Duffy (Fairfield, Conn.) led all scorers at the intermission with 11 points off the bench on a 5-for-8 first half shooting performance.
- The contest stayed tight through the first eight minutes of the second stanza with the Rams taking a 52-49 lead following a jumper by sophomore guard Max Bonney-Liles (Hudson, N.H.).
- EC answered with an 8-0 run to take the lead for good, capped by a three by sophomore guard Giovanni Ciampa (Tewksbury, Mass.) to make it a 57-52 game with 9:31 to play.
- The Rams pulled to within one score on their next possession on a triple by Bonney-Liles but they would not get any closer.
- Emmanuel regained a double-digit lead with 4:05 to play on a tough runner by senior guard Blake Hardy (Waterbury, Conn.) to move the score to 70-59.
- The hosts would hold on for the 10 point win, final score 82-72.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Riddick finished with a game-high 23 points on 7-for-17 shooting from the field and added three rebounds and three assists.
- Fox finished with a double-double of 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while graduate student Daniel Flaherty (Warwick, R.I.) added 15 points off the bench.
- Bonney-Liles paced the Rams with a team-high 20 points while Duffy finished the night with 13 points, adding six assists.
UP NEXT
- The Saints are now idle until next Wednesday, February 12 when they head to Standish, Maine to take on Saint Joseph's College (ME) at 7:00 PM in more GNAC action.
- Suffolk returns to the court the same day, heading to Northfield, Vt. to face Norwich University at 6:30 PM in a GNAC affair.
