THE LEAD: EC's men's basketball made a strong statement with a 38-point victory over Norwich University on Saturday, January 25th. The Saints were led by a ferocious double-double by Marcus Fox (Danbury, Conn.), recording 26 points and 13 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cadets started the afternoon with Caleb Casinas (Aiea, Hawaii) connecting on the first shot of the day, 3-0, but the Saints stormed down the court to find Zachary Crisafulli (Easthampton, Mass.) a three-pointer for himself. The Saints then went on a 17-point run through the next six minutes, highlighted by nine points from Fox and five from Emmett Riddick (Middletown, Conn.), 20-3.
- Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.) was able to break the momentum with a jump shot and lay-up of his own, 20-7. Fox continued to own the paint on both ends pushing EC ahead with seven and a half left in the half. The guard trio of Jack Moulder (Newtown, Conn.), Devin Pulsifer (Winthrop, Mass.) and Dan Flaherty (Warwick, R.I.) entered the game and knocked down three-point field-goals to push the Saints into the break,51-19.
- Moulder continued the sharp shooting to open the half for the Saints, but a variety of turnovers through the next six minutes of play slowed down the Saints and allowed for open shots by Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) and Dan Bertrand (Saugus, Mass.), 70-39.
- The final minutes of the contest showed a strong post presence by EC's David Albanese (Brookfield, Conn.) and Will Parsons (Rowley, Mass.), combining for nine rebounds in the final minutes of regulation to seal the GNAC win, 88-50.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Fox's 26-point, 13 rebound double-double was his second-best performance of the season, behind his 27-point showing on November 26th against Western New England University.
- The Cadets' Booth was the only person on the roster that was able to record double-digits. He finished the afternoon with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and one block.
