THE LEAD: Three starters for the Saints scored at least twenty points in the evening victory over the Golden Bears of Western New England University, continuing their winning ways with an 18 point victory on Tuesday evening, 104-86.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Through the first four minutes of play, the lead changed four times before the Golden Bears were able to extend the lead to eight off of 4-5 shooting  from behind the arc, two from Tim Reilly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and one a piece from Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.J.) and Alex Sikorski (Rocky Hill, Conn.), 14-6. EC regained the lead with 11:09 left in the half after a field goal by Dan Flaherty (Warwick, R.I) and a layup by Marcus Fox (Danbury, Conn.), 19-18.
  • WNEU continued to battle through the next five minutes, regaining the lead with a three-point attempt by Zachary Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) and layup by Sikorski, 30-24, with eight minutes left in the half. The lead was extended to a half-high of ten points after a made layup by Colin Garrow (Ellington, Conn.), but EC was relentless through the final five minutes. Fox scored seven points in final two minutes, helped by Crisafulli closing the WNEU lead to one, 46-45.
  • EC opened the half hot with Fox connecting on two three pointers and jump shot, and junior Zachary Crisafulli (East Hampton, Mass.) making a triple and monstrous dunk, 60-52.
  • The Saints continued to push offensively as guard duo Emmett Riddick (Middletown, Conn.) and Devin Pulsifer (Winthrop, Mass.) joined the scoring trend to extend the lead with eleven left on the clock, 77-63.
  • The Golden Bears began to make a push with a made three-point jump shot by McGuire and a completed and-one by Reilly, closing the lead to eight, 85-77, with six minutes remaining. Riddick cut the momentum of the Bears by continuing to heat up, scoring ten late game points for the Saints. EC continued the trend to close out the evening ahead of WNEU, 104-86.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Fox led the evening for the Saints with a double-double of a season-high 27 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high seven assists.
  • Along with Fox, Crisafulli and Riddick combined for 47 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
  • Riddick moved into eighth all-time in scoring at Emmanuel, surpassing Albert Hayle '05 on the list who finished his career with 1,110 points.
  • WNEU's McGuire scored 22 points to lead the Golden Bears, shooting 6-10 from three point range, along with two rebounds and four assists.
  • The 5-1 start for the Saints marks the best start in program history through six games.
