MEN'S BASKETBALL WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT; TOPS REGIS 73-64

THE LEAD: Sophomore forward Marcus Fox (Danbury, Conn.) collected a double-double with a games highs in points (23) and rebounds (10) to lift Emmanuel College past Regis College, 73-64, on Saturday afternoon in the Catholic Schools Classic hosted by Saint Joseph's College (ME).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints doubled up the Pride early following a layup by senior guard Joe Tamburro (South Windsor, Conn.) put EC on top 14-7 six minutes into the contest.
- Emmanuel led the rest of the way, despite Regis pulling within six at 32-26 with 3:35 left in the first half after a three pointere by Jordan Seldon (Dorchester, Mass.).
- EC carried the six point lead into the halftime intermission, leading 35-29 at the break behind a 14-for 35 (40.0%) effort from the floor in the stanza.
- Emmanuel opened the second half with a 10-0 run to build a 45-29 advantage which proved too much for Regis to overcome.
- The closest the Pride would get was within seven points following a jumper by Ademola Afonja (Staten Island, N.Y.) with 7:10 to play, cutting the lead to 56-49.
- Emmanuel was in control down the stretch, holding on for the 73-64 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The double-double for Fox marks his fourth of the year.
- EC junior Emmett Riddick (Middletown, Conn.) added 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting in the victory.
- Emmanuel held Ademola to just eight points marking just the second time all season he was contained to single digits, eight below his season average.
- Seldon finished with a team-best 12 points for Regis followed by an 11 point outing from junior guard Dimitri Rosa (Tiverton, R.I.).
- Emmanuel has now won five straight for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign, averaging over 85 points per game during the streak.
UP NEXT
- Both teams return to action tomorrow in the Catholic Charities Classic as the Pride face Rivier University at 1:00 PM while the Saints take on the host Monks at 3:00 PM. Saint Joseph's College enters the contest on an eight-game winning streak.
