THE LEAD: Lasell College used a 26-4 run over a 10 minute span in the first half of play to put away host Emmanuel College, 84-64, Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball action on the Andy Yosinoff Court.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints got off to a fast start, taking a 14-9 lead following a triple by junior guard Joe Tamburro (South Windsor, Conn.) just five minutes into the action.
- Over the next ten minutes of play, the Lasers dominated all facets of the game and put together a 26-4 run to take control of the action with a 35-18 lead with six minutes remaining in the half following a layup from freshman forward Victor Collazo (Clearwater, Fla.).
- Emmanuel was unable to take advantage of several Laser turnovers before the end of the half and trailed 46-30 heading into the break.
- Lasell junior Tim Blair (Newington, Conn.) drained a three to open the second half and give the Lasers a 19 point cushion (49-30) for their largest lead of the night.
- With 12 minutes to play, EC sophomore guard Blake Hardy (Waterbury, Conn.) buried a three-ball to cut the lead to 12 (58-46) but it was the closest the hosts would get.
- The Lasers extended the lead to over 20 points on another Blair triple to put the visitors ahead 75-54 with just over six minutes to play.
- Emmanuel was unable to rally as Lasell coasted to the 84-64 road victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Four Lasers scored in double-figures led by a 22 point outing from sophomore guard Stefan Masciarelli (Northbridge, Mass.).
- Blair, senior Derek McMahon (Hatfield, Mass.) and senior guard Scott Arsenault (Walpole, Mass.) were also in double-figures for Lasell with 14, 12, and 12, respectively.
- Tamburro paced Emmanuel with a team-high 16 points on 5-for-11 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line.
- Freshman forward Marcus Fox (Danbury, Conn.) added 10 points and was also perfect from the line going 4-for-4 from the stripe.
- Emmanuel finished the game 11-for-11 from the free throw line but shot just 35.8% from the floor (24-of-67).
UP NEXT
- The Saints are idle until Saturday, February 10 when they hit the road to play Regis College at 1:00 PM in more Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.
- Lasell is back the same day, hosting Suffolk University at 4:00 PM in a GNAC doubleheader with their women's program tipping at 2:00 PM.
