The Lead:
Johnson & Wales ran its school-record winning streak to 15 games and stayed undefeated in the conference. The Wildcats were dominate from behind the arc, hitting 11-of-19, while also scoring 48 points in the paint. JWU also won the rebound battle, 54-to-27.
Of Note:
The Wildcats high-flying offense scored a season-high 116 points against the Saints. JWU hasn't put up that many points since pouring in 128 against Albertus Magnus in the 2011 GNAC semifinals. Prior to this year, the 2010-11 season was the last time the Wildcats topped 100 points three times.
Through the first six minutes, Emmanuel was able to stay with the Wildcats. An Alex Minetti layup at the 14:18 mark pulled the Saints to within two, 9-7. Over the next 10 minutes, the JWU defense wore down Emmanuel as the Saints only made two baskets during that stretch. An Anthony Jernigan (East Hartford, Conn.) free throw put the Wildcats up 37-13 at the 5:03 mark. Emmanuel would only get as close as 21 the rest of the game.
Johnson & Wales had a pair of double-doubles from the senior duo of Tom Garrick (Seekonk, Mass.) and Quarry Greenaway (Westchester, NY). Garrick led all players with 33 points and 12 rebounds while Greenaway snagged a game-high 14 rebounds while scoring 20 points. More than half of his points came from the line where he was 11-of-12. As a team, JWU made as many free throws (25-of-28) as EC took (15-of-25).
For the second time in four games, Johnson & Wales had five players in double figures. Coming off the bench to score a season-high 18 points was guard Jarell Lawson (Providence, RI). Joining him was Jernigan with 16 points, four assists and four steals. Michael Kiser added 11 points.
Emmanuel is the first team in six games to score more than 70 points on the Wildcats. Leading the way off the bench was Joe Tamburro with 27 points. Minetti was next at 17 points followed by Kyle Smith at 13 points.
Up Next:
Johnson & Wales has five days off until it travels to St. Joseph's (Me) for a 2:00 PM tip on January 23 while the Saints are back the same day when they host Lasell College at 3:00 PM.
