SAINTS COMPETE IN GNAC CHAMPIONSHIP

Oct 29, 2007 - The Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams traveled to Standish, ME on Saturday to compete in the GNAC Championship meet. The Emmanuel women placed 4th out of 11 teams, while the men ran 7th out of 8 teams. Junior Christine Gaspar (Attleboro, MA) and senior Emily McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) led the Saints, finishing in 3rd and 4th place, respectively. Gaspar ran the 5K course in 20:58, while McCaffrey completed the race in 21:11. Both performances rendered the athletes All-Conference honors. Sophomore Amanda Strout (East Longmeadow, MA), senior Keelyn Blanchfield (East Thetford, VT), and junior Anna Merrow (Kennebunkport, ME) were Emmanuel's third, fourth, and fifth point scorers.
On the men's side, senior T.J. Griffis (Green Harbor, MA) led the way with a 31:37 performance in the 8K race. Sophomore Tim Flaherty (Mattapoisett, MA) finished 2nd for the Saints with a time of 34:07. Senior Matt Hickey (North Attleboro, MA), sophomore Joey Rugo (Grafton, MA), and freshman Ben Cleveland (Auburn, ME) rounded out the top five for Emmanuel.
Emmanuel's head coach Tony DaRocha was honored by his peers, as he was voted the 2007 GNAC Cross Country Coach of the Year.
