Bio

Genesia Eddins joined the Emmanuel College Athletic Department staff in August of 2016 as an Assistant Coach for the Saints Cross Country program.  Eddins brings with her a diverse coaching background as well as experience at the collegiate and national level.

Eddins is arguably the greatest track and field athlete to compete at the University of Massachusetts-Boston from an era when the Beacons dominated the sport in the mid to late 1980s. Eddins earned All-American status 23 times in 15 different events during her four-year career and captured eight NCAA individual championships, winning three 800-meter indoor titles from 1986-88 and two more outdoor crowns in the 800 in 1986 and 1987.

She took the 400-meters in outdoor competition in 1985, 1987 and 1988 as well. The track star still holds two NCAA championship records with a time of 2:06.89 that she established in the 1987 800 indoor championships and a mark of 53.45 set in the 400 for the 1988 indoor competition.

Eddins was also an integral part of the six UMass Boston relay NCAA championship units, helping the Beacons attain four straight NCAA outdoor titles in the 1,600 relay from 1985-88 and a pair of indoor crowns in the 1,600 relay in 1987 and 1988. The 1988 outdoor team still holds the NCAA championship record of 3:40.76 set in 1988 for the 1,600. Eddins was a major reason for the school's four NCAA titles (three indoor, one outdoor).

She is a member of the UMass Boston Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the NCAA Women's Track & Field Hall of Fame.

At UMass Boston, Eddins earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1991 before becoming a Certified Forensic Investor from University of Central Florida in 1998. Eddins would later earn a Master Certification in Administration and Manager from Harvard University in 2006.

She has affliations or memberships with the Massachusetts Frack & Field Officials Assocation, the Harvard University Alumni Admissions Advisory Board and the University of Massachusetts Boston Athletic Advisory Board.

Outside of Emmanuel, Eddins is a freelance writer, entrepreneur and independent track & field coach. She currently resides in Boston, Mass.
