CROSS COUNTRY RACES AT BOWDOIN INVITATIONAL

BRUNSWICK, Maine- The Emmanuel College men’s and women’s Cross Country teams competed against eight other institutions Saturday afternoon in the Bowdoin Invitational. Both squads finished sixth in their respective team races as the host Polar Bears captured the crown in both races.

BRUNSWICK, Maine- The Emmanuel College men's and women's Cross Country teams competed against eight other institutions Saturday afternoon in the Bowdoin Invitational. Both squads finished sixth in their respective team races as the host Polar Bears captured the crown in both races.

INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONS

  • Bowdoin senior Sarah Kelley bested her teammate Julia O'Rourke by less than two seconds to win the individual title with a 5K time of 19:12.9.
  • On the men's side, Bowdoin senior Benjamin Torda ran the 8K course in 25:57, cruising to the finish 12 seconds better than any of his competition.

EMMANUEL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Patrick Carty (Sweden, Maine) was the top male finisher for the Saints, placing 17th in the field of 105 with a time of 27:58 on the 8K course, good for mile splits of 5:37.
  • Sophomore Erik Brobst (Freeport, Maine) was next for Emmanuel with a finish of 29:49 in 40th place
  • Rookies Trevor Hajj (Gilmanton, N.H.) and Matthew Cronin (Coventry, R.I.) crossed the line in 59th and 62nd place, respectively while junior Jefferson Zannoni (Merrimack, N.H.) finished in 69th to round out the men's top-five
  • Freshman Stephanie Forester (East Walpole, Mass.) ran well in her second collegiate race and was the top Emmanuel female to cross the finish, clocking in at 20:37 which was good for 27th place out of 136 runners.
  • Senior Nicole Varca (Wethersfield, Conn.) ran the 5K course in 21:28 to finish 47th while junior Reilly Boyle (Wells, Maine) finished 57th with a time of 21:59
  • Sophomore Allie Gorrill (Whitefield, Mass.) and Jackie Schneider (Weymouth, Mass.) rounded out the women's top five, clocking in at 22:09 and 22:35, respectively.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Saints return to action next weekend when they head to familiar grounds for the Codfish Bowl race at Franklin Park. The women's race is scheduled for an 11:00 AM gun followed by the men's race at 11:45 AM.
