BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel freshman Margaret McCaffrey (East Greenwich, R.I.) was named the GNAC Corvias Women's Runner and Rookie of the Week by the conference offices on Monday afternoon. Fellow Saint, junior Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) took Runner of the Week honors on the men's side following a solid performance at the Codfish Bowl.
McCaffrey, rookie of the week for the second consecutive week, continued her hot start with the Saints, finishing 12th overall out of 161 runners at the 46th Annual Codfish Bowl. Her time of 19:44 in the 5K race made her the seventh Division III runner to cross the finish line.
Chamenko turned in a time of 27:45 in the men's 8K race, finishing 19th overall and leading the Saints to a fourth-place team finish. The junior was the top Division III finisher in the race and the seventh overall collegiate runner, finishing behind six runners from Division II Merrimack.
Women's cross country sophomore Marwah Haq (Methuen, Mass.) also received honors, as she was one of six female runners named to the honor roll for the week. She ran a 20:51 race, improving on her previous personal best by 70 seconds in just her third collegiate race. She placed 48th in the 161-runner field and was 24th among all Division III runners.
The Saints runners are idle this weekend, but will head to Standish, Maine for the Runnin' Monks Invitational at Saint Joseph's of Maine on Saturday, October 10.
