SAINTS RUN 3RD AT POP CROWELL INVITATIONAL
WENHAM, Mass. – The Emmanuel Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams raced to third place team finishes on Saturday in Gordon College’s 42nd Annual Pop Crowell Invitational. With twenty competing teams in both the men’s and women’s races, the Saints’ 3rd place finishes landed Emmanuel behind just Georgia College and the University of New England, but ahead all other GNAC programs, including defending 2012 men’s champion Norwich University. The Saints’ 3rd place team finishes were huge improvements, as the Emmanuel men’s and women’s teams placed 10th and 14th, respectively, in this same meet last season.
WENHAM, Mass. – The Emmanuel Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams raced to third place team finishes on Saturday in Gordon College's 42nd Annual Pop Crowell Invitational. With twenty competing teams in both the men's and women's races, the Saints' 3rd place finishes landed Emmanuel behind just Georgia College and the University of New England, but ahead all other GNAC programs, including defending 2012 men's champion Norwich University. The Saints' 3rd place team finishes were huge improvements, as the Emmanuel men's and women's teams placed 10th and 14th, respectively, in this same meet last season.
The Emmanuel men's team was paced by freshman Marco Caserta (Topsfield, Mass.), who ran his first collegiate 8k in 29:39 for 15th place out of the field of 160 competitors. The Saints women were led by senior Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.), who raced to a 21:20 5k finish for 15th place out of 177 total runners. Both Caserta and Metivier earned spots on the podium for their top 15 individual finishes.
Closely following Caserta on the men's side were Christopher Connelly (Quincy, Mass.), Max Bukowiec (York, Me.) and Michael Morris (Stoughton, Mass.), who finished in the 16, 17th and 19th spots, respectively, all boasting times under 30 minutes. Rounding out the top five scorers for the Saints was senior Pat Callan (Pawling, N.Y.), who finished 25th overall with a time of 30:05.
In the women's race, junior Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) crossed the line three places behind Metivier for 18th overall in a time of 21:35. Senior Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) snagged 22nd overall and ran third for the Saints with her time of 21:48. Sophomores Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) and Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) earned Emmanuel's fourth and fifth scoring positions with times of 22-flat and 22:16, respectively.
In both the men's and women's races, four out of the twenty competing programs represented Great Northeast Athletic Confernece institutions. In the women's 5k, following Emmanuel's third place team finish was Norwich (6th), Rivier (13th) and Suffolk (17th). Following the Emmanuel men came Norwich (4th), Rivier (11th) and Suffolk (only four finishers).
The Saints will take the next two weekends off in preparation for the Runnin' Monks Invitational, hosted by Saint Joseph's College in Standish, Maine on October 12th. The women's race will begin at 11:00 AM and the men will run at 12:00 PM.
